Julius B. Anthony is Founder and President of St. Louis Black Authors of Children’s Literature and The Believe Project.
Julius has enjoyed more than 20 years as an early childhood and elementary education professional and has served as a classroom teacher, principal, director of curriculum and instruction, and adjunct professor. Throughout his career, Julius has enjoyed writing motivational poems and short stories for his students and serving as a fierce advocate of literacy-based PK-12 education.
In October of 2014, Julius published his first children’s book entitled “Me! Ten Poetic Affirmations” which debuted at the National Black Child Development Institute’s annual conference in Detroit, Michigan.
Also, Julius B. Anthony is the Founding Principal of City Academy, a successful independent day school located in north St. Louis city.
One achievement Mr. Anthony is particularly proud of is his current upstart “The Believe Project” which seeks to ensure all children are confident and competent readers by the end of third grade. Through a unique partnership with Scholastic, Nine Network St. Louis (PBS), IDEA St. Louis, Ready Readers, and We Stories; Believe offers new and innovative ways for children to have access to culturally responsive books.
On July 3, 2020, The Believe Project premiered as a literacy-based children’s show in response to the regional demands for K-3 remote learning. The show aired on Nine Network PBS Channel 9 and Missouri History Museum’s “Storytime in the Museum” summer platform.
Julius is a proud graduate of Howard University (Washington, DC) and Clark Atlanta University (Atlanta, GA). Julius is also a 2001 graduate of Leadership St. Louis and a 1995 fellow of Washington University’s (St. Louis, MO) National Endowment for the Humanities’ (NEH) Harlem Renaissance Project. He is a recipient of the 2017 Artist Support Award from the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis, 2018 BALSA Foundation Summer Fellow, first recipient of the Children’s Education Alliance of Missouri’s IDEA Award (2019), Inner City Connections Fellow (2019), St. Louis Civic Pride Foundation’s 2019 Civic Pride Champion Award, and DELUX Power 100 Award (2019).
